~Mind's Eye Culture Spot~

When I start writing a new story, I first brainstorm and decide how my version of the universe I write about should function. This is how I imagine the world in Mind's Eye to be. I'll probably add more to it as I go on. Despite my planning there are always extra things I add to the story. The only other thing I love more than writing is developing the characters and the world. I have varying degrees of success, but at any rate, it's one of my favorite things to do before and during the process of writing a new story.

Throughout the Pokémon world, people adhere to the rules laid down by the Pokémon League, yet each region has their own rules when regarding the raising and training of Pokémon. These rules are approved by the region's government and also by the Pokémon League. When a trainer and their Pokémon are challenging the Elite Four and Champion, Pokémon are not allowed to faint. Instead, a mostly evasive strategy is a popular one. Rarely do Pokémon use offensive moves. Instead, trainers make efforts to ensure that moves like Double Team or Sleep Powder have more priority over any offensive moves. There are several rules of battle, as well as several guidelines as to what constitutes a victory.

The following is one of the documents a new Pokémon trainer would receive upon registering for a Pokémon license.

Battle Guidelines

This is for my most recent Pokémon Story, Mind's Eye. It details the rules that Pokémon trainers have to follow when they register for a Pokémon license. A long time ago I played Pokémon Stadium 2 and distinctly remember learning (in Earl's Pokémon School, I believe) that it was against the rules to use Explosion if both trainers only had one Pokémon left. And yet those friggin' Team Rocket members used it. All. The. Time. I guess they don't have to follow the rules. Those freaks. Anyway, while I was brainstorming for this story I let that inspire me to make up Pokémon trainer rules for this story. I wanted to make a world where Pokémon still were used in Pokémon battles, but didn't have to be beat up so much. I still play the games so I guess I'm a bit of a hypocrite, but while playing the main games I wish that there was a different way to have battles, so here we are!

Many thanks to Bulbapedia. I looked at the lists of Pokémon moves on their website to make sure I was correctly remembering what they all did. I skipped a few generations of the games (Black and White, Black2 and White2, X, Y and Z) so some moves were new to me.

Thanks also to :iconlablayers:. They have a Formatting Tips Deviation that I use for help.
