Description

Also called a Sparrow-hawk. I think this one is a male because my bird book (The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds) says that the males have a "rufous crown, back and tail" and that the females have darker rufous coloring.
I'm glad this bird was shot with its back to the camera because that made it easier to identify! :) It's really cool that my step-dad apparently met a falconer or did the falconing himself (I don't know who is wearing the glove in the picture). There's a book by David Clement-Davies called The Seeing Pool where the main character's father does falconing and it's pretty cool.
This picture was in my step-dad's old photo album. I think that it was either taken in Canada or the United States, but it would be funny if it was Canada, since the bird is called American Kestrel. If it was in Canada, that means the bird is a transfer student. :P That's just something I say when the name of some animal is different than where it actually lives.

I love these kind of birds. They're so cute! And they're smart too.
